PC Council plans "Billiter Day"
The town of Paden City, in recognition of its oldest living resident, will celebrate "Mazie Billiter Day" on April 20.
Mayor John Hopkins proclaimed the day in honor of Billiter at this month's regular council meeting.
"Whereas pride in our community has been demonstrated again and again by citizens of Paden City; and Whereas the Paden City Mayor and Common Council wish to recognize one of those citizens. Now, therefore I, John Hopkins, Mayor of Paden City, do hereby proclaim, April 20, 2005 as Mazie Billiter Day and urge all citizens of Paden City to honor Mazie by recognizing this date, April 20, 2005, as the day Mazie will become 100 years young," Hopkins read. "Therefore, we ask in solemn prayer to the Great Master of the universe that He grant to Mazie Billiter many more years of good health and happiness."
This honor becomes the second time Paden City has recognized Billiter as the town's oldest resident. During the town's centennial celebration in 2003, Billiter was presented with a bouquet of flowers by City Recorder Ginger Wilcox.

There is much confusion about Peter's birth date. See Simms report.
According to the Columbus City Directory: 1887 Painter; 1889 Painter;
1893 Clerk; 1897 Laborer; 1898 Clerk; 1901 Clerk; 1902 Clerk; 1904 Meat
Cutter; 1906 Meat Market; 1910 Meat Market; 1914 Meats @ Central Market;
1915 Essie's Meats @ Central Market; 1918 Butcher; 1920 Butcher.

He seems to have died fairly affluent. Because his father was dying, James
Russell Billiter Jr. was administering Peter's third wife's (Essie's) estate
in 1947. Jim reached the mattress in which Essie had secreted Peter's savings
too late, Essie's brothers had removed it first. Jim, Bob and Pauline received
only "a couple hundred dollars". This according to Robert Charles Billiter and
Jim's wife, Virginia Reeb (Billiter) Butler.

Lots of good dirt is available from Etta Allen's divorce suit from Peter in
1898. Jerry Billiter is a defendant, and this lends to Peter's existence in
the John Billiter/Lucy Crow family; Jeremiah was a child listed in the 1860
census for Tyler County, WV. The suit mentions that Jerry was visiting Peter's
house in 1898 for a week.

Garner age 26 on 4/15/1911. Father: Leo W. Garner, Mother: Angeline Decker.
