A letter from Sanuel A. Hauser to his uncle, Jonathan David Hooser
Winston Forsythe, North Carolina January 26, 1877
Dear Uncle,
Itis with great pleasure I seat myself to answer you kind letter which
came to hand some time ago. I would have answered it sooner if I could
have got mypicture. It was sick the day it was taken. I send you my
picture. Pleaseshow it to some of those pretty rich young ladies and
tell them I am single and on the market
Father has married since I wrote to you. He got a nice lady.
Sorry you are troubled so much with the grasshoppers. Father owns two
goodfarms. Crops are generally good in this country. I think if you was
here you would like it better than the western country. If you could
come here withfive or six thousand dollars you could by a first class
farm. I have been going to school nearly all the winter.
This is Uncle Williams Address. Reverend Dr. William Hauser, M.D.
Bartow P.O.
Jefferson County,
Georgia
Uncle William is one of the best informed men I ever talked with. He was
in thiscountry (?) years teaching music.
I send fathers and his wife and my brother, Elijah P. Hauser ( ? pictures
probably ). I will
probably send my sister's next time. I hope you will send me all of your
pictures you can.
If I thought that I could make a little fortune I might come out there
and spend a few years. Have you any music teachers out there.
Some talk of another war.May God in his mercy forbid it? This leaves
us all well. Please write soonand all the new

When Dane's company returned to Mankato after enlisting at Ft.
Snelling in Augtist, 1862, just after the Sioux massacre began, they
brought with them sealed orders which on being opened, directed them to
impress all the horses they needed. The boys at once sallied outfor the
liveries and hotel barns and streets, taking all they could find. It
happened that afternoon that Hon. Thos. M. Pugh was out driving with his
best girl. He had a splendid gray horse and was speeding along Front
street inMankato at a 2.40 gait, when Jim Hooser, one of the soldiers,
saw him and dashing out into the street hailed him. Tom innocently reined
up his nag and Jimbegan to pat and praise the horse, to which Tom raised
no objection. BeforeTom was aware, however, Jim managed to slip the
horse out of the buggy and the harness, and was off on his back in a
twinkling, leaving Tom still holdingthe lines atached to the empty
harness. To say Tom was surprised is putting it much too mild, and no one

Sudden Death - February 28, 1904 - Mrs George W. Fletcher of Kerns died
suddenly last night
The news of thesudden death of Mrs. Mary E., wife of George W. Fletcher,
which occurred ather home in Kerns, Nicollet county, last night, will be
received with deep regret by her many friends and acquaintances in this
community. Mrs. Fletcherhas been sick for several weeks with a
complication of diseases, and while her death was not wholly unexpected,
yet it was sudden. Only yesterday friendswho called to see her reported
that she was bright and seemingly her condition was improved, but a
change for the worse took place during the night resulting in her death.
Mrs. Fletcher was born in Indiana, October 11, 1845. Shecame to this
state with her husband in 1862, locating on the present homestead in
Belgrade where they have continuously resided. Her life, especially
during the early days was eventful and interesting. She was a Christian
woman, a kind and devoted wife and mother, and beloved by all who knew
her. Deceased leaves a husband and three children to mourn her loss, the
latter being Mrs. Charles Louchks, North Mankato; Mrs. Sadie Fletcher
who resides at the homestead; and Mrs. Guy Trask, Salt Lake City, Utah.
No arrangements have yetbeen made for her funeral but will be announced
as soon as complete.

I am looking for information on James William Eckert, Foster
Franklin Eckert, Charles A. Hooser, George Harrison, and Taylor Aikins.
These relatives were all in the Gadsby area from, I believe, about 1905
to about 1920. They were farmers. Some of them had a band they called
"The MapleLeaf Orchestra". The orchestra was made up of Eckert,
Harrison, Mcpherson andNourse. Anyone who may have any type of
information on these families pleasecontact me. Also anyone who knows
anything about "The Gadsby and District Pioneers association".
Notes
1 somewhere along the lines the spelling of Hooser went to being
spelled Hoosier by some.
Anne Miller author I believe that Charles Albert Hoosier/Hooser left to
go back to the States about the sametime my grandmother Pearl left for
Usk. That would be about in 1920. I know her one child was born in
Stettler, Alberta on April 7th, 1920 and died in Terrace, B.C. hospital
on July 16th, 1920. Usk is about 19 km from Terrace.

This file is a part of the Bureau of Land Management Database for the
states of Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
Dataedited and prepared by Joy Fisher, jfisher@ucla.edu.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) inherited the functions of the
General Land Office when it was established by Congress in 1946. The
South Dakota Land Patents Database, derived from General Land Office and
BLM information, contains deeds (primarily patents) issued by the United
States in the region now known as the State of South Dakota between 1859
and 1995. While BLM has been referred to as "the Nations record keeper",
it is the National Archives that actually keeps the files. The BLM,
maintains diagrammatic plats known as Master Title Plats, which depict
lands which are owned by the United States and lands which are patented.
However, these plats do not have any information about who the lands were
patented to. That information which has only been available after tedious
research, it is available now in this database.
The South Dakota Land Patents Database contains the following information
for each land transaction: date, location (township, range, section,
meridian), name of person the land was patented to, case type, conveyance
type, county, and the patent document identification number.
Using this information you can obtain copies of the patent filefor $10
from the National Archives at the following address:
