Vesper was a farmer he and his family raised produce and meat for the community especially for the logging community called Maxville, which was larger at that time then the town of Wallowa. The picture of him looks like his son Vernon Arlo.

Vesper and Maude were married in Enterprise, Oregon. They determined to go to Portland Or for their honeymoon. They traveled by horse back to Elgin where they were to take the train the rest of the way. On the way to Elgin they had to cross the River at Minam. Vesper fell off his horse and was wet through and through. By the time they arrived in Portland he was very sick. Maude obtained some liniment from the lady who owned the residence where they were staying. What she didn't know is that it was horse liniment and not to be taken internaly. She gave Vesper a big dose of it and like to have killed him but by the next day he had sweat out the illiness and was just fine. From that time on she was to do a lot of doctoring for her large family and her neighbors. See notes of Maude for more information.

!SEALED TO PARENTS: Second time 28 Jan 1992 PortlandOBIT: Funeral services were held for Mrs. Maude Henderson, a long-time
resident of Wallowa, atne the Christian Church Wednesday afternoon. Mrs.
Henderson had been ill for a brief period before her death, but had felt better
shortly before a reoccorance of the illness. She died early Saturday morning.
Rev. James Sinclair of the Christian Church conducted the services. A men's
quartet consisting of Rev. James Sinclair, Rev. John Sinclair of Enterprise,
James McCrae and Crawford Oveson sang "The Old Rugged Cross," and "On The
Jericho Road." Pallbearers were Roy Carper, Melvin Carper, Frank Lindsey,
Hershel Scott, Russell Temple, and Spencer Trump. Funeral arrangements were
handled by the Booth-Bollman Funeral home. Mrs. Henderson was born in Shell
City in Vernon county, Missouri, January 28, 1888, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James Taylor. Living there until Maude was 14, the Taylor family came west in
1902 and moved onto a homestead in the Grossman area. In 1905 Maude married
Vesper Henderson, and they moved onto their own homestead where they lived
until the Fall of 1910. They then moved onto the homestead of Vesper's
parents. In 1919 the Hendersons moved to a place of their own in Promise where
they lived until the Fall of 1938. Because of Mr. Henderson's ill health, they
then moved to Asotin, Wash., where he died January 28, 1939. Mrs. Henderson
moved to Wallowa in the Spring of 1939 where she spent the remainder of her
life, except for a brief period when she worked in a Depot in Ordance during
Workd War II. Two sons, Ray Henderson and Lester Henderson preceded Mrs.
Henderson in death. She is survived by 10 children, Mrs. M.J. Smith (Alice),
of Irrigon, Oregon.; Roy Henderson of Hobbs, New Mexico; Mrs. James Leitch
(Leila) of Hermiston; Arlo Henderson who is stationed a the Yaak Air Force Base
in Montana; Mrs. Ben Wheeler (Doris) of Lostine; Mrs. Grace Horton of Promise;
Mrs. R.L. Gorbet (Elna), Mrs. Cyril Horton (Emma), Lois Henderson and James
Henderson, all of Wallowa. Two brothers Bert Taylor of Asotin, Wash., and
Clyde Taylor of Wallowa; and one sister, Mrs. Esther Tennent of Tacoma, Wash.,
also survive her. Thirty-two grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren are
other survivors. Mrs. Henderson led a very active life in the Christian
Church. She was a friendly person, beloved of hundreds whom she knew. She
will be missed this community. All of the Henderson children, except Roy of
New Mexico, were able to attend the funeral. Lois Henderson was able to book
air passage out of Newfoundland to attend her mother's funeral, and members of
her family met her at airport in Walla Walla Tuesday.

!HISTORY: Samuel and Angie Mae Henderson Lovell, left Yates Center, Kansas in
1902 whhen Loyd was 2 mo. old/. Ley left with P.C. & Amanda Henderson coming to
Idaho by train. Where the men worked in the harvest. They then came on to
Oregon and filed on homesteads in Promise, Wallowa, Oregon.Their diet the first
winter was mainly turnips, but the coming season gardens were raised and hay
for the stock. Sam and the Henderson boys worked in the Palouse harvest and mae
held down the homestead. They lived in Promise until 1909 when Sam worked for
J.H. Dobbin and Loyd started to school at the Pratt school. They lived for
several years in the Prairie Creek area, where the family lived on a farm.
Later a farm was bought probably 1917 or 18, in the Dry Land O K Gulch Area.
This was not very profitable as there were years when rainfall was scarce.

!HISTORY: Loyd went to 8th grade in Milton, Oregon living with his mother's
parents (Peter C & Amanda Henderson). He had great respect for his grandfather
and they studied the bible together. When Loyd was a high school Jr. he broke
his let while swinging on the hay track in the barn at the ranch on OKGulch.
This ended his school days, the bone was not set correctly and he was on
crutches for sometime. He met his wife thru his sister who sas a chool mate of
hers. He was ambitious, loved nature and couldn't stand town life, else he
might have become a lawyer. Loyd was honest to a fault, more or less a loner,
two brothers couldn't have been more different than he and Garrett.
Spring of 1930 he and his family moved to Imnaha. We finally bought a farm of
our own, set an orchard and raised many tomatoes, squash , had shddp but due to
cayotes turned to cows. Our sons were both in the 2nd W war. Norman, navy in
the Atlantic. Jerry a merchant Seaman in the Pacific. Then the navy in Korea,
the MS in Vietnam and only retired in Nov 1989 just 10 months before he died of
cancer. Norman drives logging truck. daugher and husbanc live on part of the
